Rega Mercury Reference Pre-Amplifier and Solis Reference Power Amplifier

Rega has introduced two major additions to its reference electronics range: the Mercury Reference Pre-Amplifier and the Solis Reference Stereo Power Amplifier.

These new separates represent some of Rega’s most ambitious engineering to date, bringing almost four decades of solid-state amplifier development into a pairing designed for customers seeking exceptional performance from their Hi-Fi system.

Rega Mercury Reference Pre-Amplifier

The Mercury is Rega’s most complex electronic product to date, created with a clear aim: to preserve signal purity with as little unwanted noise as possible. Its ultra-low noise floor, fully discrete symmetrical circuitry and high-performance digital-to-analogue converter help retain the quietest musical details.

A custom CNC-machined aluminium enclosure, full-colour IPS display, discrete headphone amplifier and custom backlit Orbit remote all contribute to a refined user experience. The Mercury also uses two parallel-connected Wolfson DACs, a galvanically isolated asynchronous USB input and ultra-low noise FET technology derived from Rega’s Aura moving-coil phono stage.

Internally, a generously rated toroidal transformer, extensive local power regulation and an Alps Blue Velvet volume control help maintain signal integrity. Dedicated protection, slow-start and control circuitry are kept isolated from the audio stages to reduce interference.

Rega Solis Reference Stereo Power Amplifier

Engineered as the Mercury’s ideal partner, the Solis is designed to drive demanding loudspeakers with authority and control. It delivers 168W RMS per channel into 8O and 305W RMS per channel into 4O.

Its fully symmetrical circuit uses twelve high-current Sanken output transistors, with six allocated to each channel. Two custom-designed 330VA toroidal transformers and 40,000µF of Rega K-Power smoothing capacitance per channel provide substantial current reserves.

Fast-recovery rectifier diodes, Nichicon audio-grade capacitors, regulated low-noise driver-stage power supplies and comprehensive protection circuitry all contribute to its performance. The Solis also includes balanced and unbalanced inputs, a 12V trigger, an independent mute function and a user-selectable standby mode.

Designed to Work as a Complete System

Rega designed the Mercury and Solis as complementary components, with circuit topologies and engineering principles intended to work together. Separating the sensitive pre-amplifier circuitry from the high-current power-amplifier stages also helps reduce interference and maintain a cleaner signal path.
