I was always a bit wary of entering this shop, I thought they’d be a bit too ‘Techy’ for me. But, boy was I wrong. They were so lovely, so helpful and very knowledgable about the products. I had been searching for something I knew I wanted but did not know if it existed, ‘my ideal sounding speakers’. This was not some artificial sound but one that was true to the artist, to the time and would give me the actual recording as it was in the studio and intended by the artist. I came across Spendor a British make of speaker and got in touch with Audio T Reading. Gareth was extremely helpful, he took his time with me and nothing was too much bother. Although the Spendors were on my list to demo Gareth also discussed alternatives which he also set-up and demo’d on the day. It was clear to me the 3/1 Classic Spendor speakers were to be the new love in my life and they remain so. Gareth aLao demo’d ann anmp annd cd player and anllowed me to take in mine for comparison which was really useful to aid my decision making. Rishi a colleague of Gareth’s again was very helpful at contact and during my visits. These guys are very genuine, knowledgeable and helpful and will go the extra mile in understanding you and your requirements and I thoroughly recommend you go and see them and discuss your requirements, you will not be disappointed.

Audio T helped me chose the products I needed to replace and update my TV and surround sound system. I had done some research and they took this into account with good grace. Once the TV and amp was ordered we set a date for installation. We re used what we could of the old 5.1 system speakers and cabling adding new wire to make it 7.1. Install took most of the day as we took time to solder cables and add banana plugs. Once the system was set up we took the time to try out 5 sets of main speakers that were contenders. Then once chosen we re set the subwoofer to work with the new speakers and the tv was set up. Could I have done this myself? I would like to think so, but no… Audio T set up expertise and experience was far superior in optimising the tv picture, getting the best from the amp, speakers and sub set up. Additionally, it’s worth saying that their prices were either the same or better than on the internet which meant that the small fee for installation basically paid for itself! (Plus copious cake and coffee).

Went in on a Saturday morning to replace the damaged stylus on my Clearaudio deck. This also needed a re-welding of a cartridge connector. Having decided not to get the Clearaudio cartridge at £250 I had a great discussion about what could be potential substitutes. I eventually plumped for an Audio Technica at £160 . This was fitted in the shop along with tracking adjustments and the reconnecting of the wire. Everyone was really pleasant and helpful.

I could not have asked more from Justin and Audio T. He really went beyond the call of duty to make sure I was happy with my purchases. He delivered the turntable to my home, carefully set it up with his tools and tracking disc, did a listening test with me and took time to make sure all was well. He noticed a flaw in the turntable I would not have noticed initially (but would have eventually) and arranged a full replacement, no questions asked. He never seemed in a hurry to move on but rather instilled a sense that he genuinely wanted to get it all right. Good stuff.

The circumstances were a little unusual as I had limited time but John showed great patience and I was able to audition 3 speakers (plus a subwoofer) at my leisure. They even allowed me to purchase the demo ProAc speakers I was interested in (not something they normally do), packed them up nicely and securely and quickly welded banana plugs onto the ends of the speaker wire I chose as well. Very good service. Called in en spec and the staff let me listen to the speakers downstairs but then the listening room came free and they carried them up there (not easy!). I was left to listen to of a wide selection of music for about half an hour which was really helpful. Bought them and they boxed them up while I got the car and then they carri d them out to the car for me. Very enjoyable experience. It's a shame the AE309s have highlighted the deficiencies in the rest of my system so no doubt will be visiting the store again soon!

A wealth of experience and knowledge between all the staff on any given day you care to wander in to the store. I would urge anyone looking for hifi not to just ring in, but to go into the store and deal with the staff face to face for a more personal experience, maybe even demo the product in their listening room. I’ve never been disappointed over many years of going in there, whether it’s for a general chat, or advice which has sometimes lead to purchases over the years. What have you got to lose, go in, you owe it to yourselves. If anything, you get to lust and marvel at some of the very high end gear that one can only dream of owning

I went for a part exchange option as I wanted to scale down on the amount of seperates and speaker size in my old system. Audio T made the transaction simple, after checking the old kit and giving me a quote it was simply a case of bringing the kit in for a check and and choosing some new items. Well that went better than I expected. Read the reviews, decided I wanted the Rega p3 with the Exact cart and went off to Audio T (Brighton) to get one. Turned out that they didn't have one as a package but they broke out an rp3 with no cart and put on an Exact for me while I waited. So far, so dry but what I'd like to say is that it was about an hour and a half spent in the company of some really nice, knowledgeable chaps who were happy to go the extra mile, perform some delicate and precise work fitting a cart and chat at the same time. And then they only charged the same amount as the factory assembled package. Added value all round. Go there.
