Focal Sopra N2 Speakers
The first impression of the Sopra N2 is that of a substantial and supremely well finished loudspeaker. Beyond this first impression, what's astonishing is the texture, transparency and smoothness of its sound. It provides a solid, "fleshy" sound with full and articulated bass. The overall coherence and harmonic richness gives the listener a surprising understanding of the music.
Three technical innovations help to achieve this reference level of performance, the first of which is the "Neutral Inductance Circuit" or NIC. This bit of tech stabilises the magnetic field within the drive units resulting in much lower distortion effects.
The second is a "Tuned Mass Damper" to control resonance within the mid-range driver. This consists of two tubular rings on the actual driver suspension and reduces cone deformation which is a major cause of distortion.
The final part to this technological trio is "Infinite Horn Loading" for the tweeter. The Beryllium unit designed by Focal is so light and rigid the main technical limitaton of the cone is the build up of air pressure behind it inside the speaker cabinet. The solution was to build it into its own small internal cavity and then connect that to the outside world via a horn structure. This has the effect of allowing the tweter to operate as if it were mounted in a massive cavity reducing distortion by 30% and allowing maximum definition from the design.
The Sopra loudspeakers are available in 5 beautiful finishes made in a custom cabinet making facility in Bourbon-Lancy as used for the ultimate Utopia series.
